Bacon Made From Tofu

Quick Crispy Tofu Bacon

Homemade vegan bacon can be made from rice paper- like my Vegan Bacon (Low Sodium), from coconut or even banana peels! This Crispy Tofu Bacon recipe keeps things simple and easy by using firm tofu. It’s something plant based people always have in their refrigerator, so there’s no need to plan ahead.

The secret to to this Crispy Tofu Bacon recipe is using a vegetable peeler to get beautiful thin little slices of tofu. This helps the tofu pieces to get all bubbly and nice and nice and crispy once fried up in your frying pan.

Making bacon from tofu is easy and doesn’t need fancy ingredients. The marinade used to flavour this tofu bacon is made with straightforward basic pantry items, and liquid smoke-a fairly common ingredient in any vegan kitchen! I use Try Me Sauces Liquid Smoke, which is easy to purchase online, adds incredible flavour to a number of dishes and is 100% vegan!

  1. Fry tofu slices for 3-4 minutes on each side until tofu is nice and crispy.

Commonly Asked Questions

What type of tofu should I use?

Only use firm, or preferably extra firm, tofu. You will not be able to peel the tofu with the vegetable peeler unless you use a firm variety of tofu. Using a peeler is essential to creating the crispy consistency of bacon. Simply cutting the tofu will not yield the same result.

How do I store this Crispy Tofu Bacon?

This tofu bacon will keep in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Simply reheat in a frying pan.
